We only use natural ingredients that have been safety assessed for use on the skin. We source certified organic ingredients wherever possible, and our essential oils are therapeutic grade.
We do not use any artificial fragrances. We do not use parabens or other broad spectrum preservatives.
Because our balms and salves do not contain water, they have a long shelf life of three years.
Our balms are made from beautiful plant oils, essential oils and waxes and are best stored in a cool place out of direct sunlight. They will repsond to ambient temperature. In cool temperatures, you will find they will harden, but will melt when in contact with body temperature.
In warm temperatures the balm will soften. If it gets too soft simply put it in the fridge for half an hour or so and it will firm up again.
PIGMENTS
We collaborate with partners in Europe in order to source natural pigments from traditional quarries in France, Italy and Cyprus and modern synthetic pigments that recreate the colours used in the renaissance and beyond, but without the toxicity!
I will be adding helpful videos and content to the @langdaleartisans facebook and instagram channels. Workshops will also be scheduled (sign up to our newsletter to receive information on them).
Pigments are a beautiful way to paint. They can be used with traditional egg temerpa (just like Botticelli!). You can use binders to make your own watercolour and milk paints. You can add mediums to make your own oil colours.
NATURAL PLANT DYES & EXTRACTS
The main difference between them is that dyes are soluble and pigments are insoluble and are suspended in a medium or binder.
We source our dyes from our partners in India whom we have collaborated with since 2015. We will also be growing some dye plants in the Archeus gardens and hope to have them available in due course.
No they are not. They are all grown sustainably. They are Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certifed. The GOTS standard was developed by leading standard setters to define world-wide recognised requirements for organic textiles.
Water from the dyeing process can be used on the garden, and plant material can be added to compost.
