Our Verona Green natural earth pigment is a beautiful soft colour. Also known as La terre verte ancienne it comes from the region of Prun, near Verona, and is dried, purified and ground with ball mills.
Used extensively in Classical antiquity and the Middle Ages, especially in Italian frescoes. In Renaissance painting, this pigment was traditionally used as the underpainting (verdaccio) for flesh tones, especially in fresco and tempera.
