Our Raw Umber pigment is an umber that comes from Cyprus. The umber earth probably owes its name to the latin "umbra" (shadow) which was once used to cast down the colors. While Cyprus is the largest producer of earth pigments in the Mediterranean basin, traces of this earth can be found everywhere.
